Easter Sunday

Well actually this post begins on Saturday night, when I colored 24 eggs in what seemed like a really long time!  I double, even triple dipped some of the eggs to perfection.  Okay, maybe I worked too hard at it... but that's me!

I had an audience the whole time :)

So Sunday morning Danny and I went to Church with my mom, then picked up the Grandmas on our way home.  We had the ham in the oven, and we were ready to eat!!  Cerena, Greg, and Greg's parents shortly arrived and we ate and drank and ate some more... so good!

After a really yummy lunch we went next door to continue celebrating with our neighbors Bleu, Noell, and Mia.  The sun was out, and its was the perfect day to be sitting around on a porch eating Angel Food Cake, fresh fruit, and Flourless Chocolate Cake with a glass of wine.  (Notice that wheel barrel of nicely colored eggs!!)

Noell and my mom had set up an Easter Egg hunt in our two back yards for the 5 kids (yes, we are considered kids in this scenerio..)  What we didn't realize until we got there, was that in addition to over a hundred eggs with candy and prizes, they also hid 2 cases of Corona, Victoria, and Pacifico!  (Bleu and Noell work for Corona...)  Some eggs were designated for Mia, and all of the others were fair game between the rest of us.  We had wayyy too much fun being competetive searchers.  In the end, we came away with a lot of great prizes, chocolate, beer, wine, etc........  Can't complain :)

Bowerbirds

Last week we went to see Bowerbirds play at Lincoln Hall.  I had not listened to them much before that week leading up to the concert.  Now I can't STOP listening to them!  I always think it's really amazing when you fall in love with a song after hearing it only once or twice.  Well that is how I feel about this entire album!

So a few days pass from the night of the concert ... and we are both COMPLETELY head over heels about this band.  One night, Danny came home from work and I was at the computer working on the newest part to my website (the music player), and we had a 2 hour conversation about how many times we were listening to the songs throughout the day, and how they have a strange ability to make you want to do more with your life.  We watched this video, and it all started to make sense.

Mostly, I think Bowerbirds hark back to our lives in Hale County, that we both miss very very much.  I didn't realize how much I missed the direct, hands-on creative connections we had and enjoyed day to day when we lived in a simpler place.  I don't miss the living conditions... but I do miss the ability to walk down a winding driveway to pick up  the mail at 2pm every day, to bring a lunch to Danny at the Red Barn every once and a while, and to make a special trip to Newbern for a cold can of Coke from Newbern Merchantile.  Some things are just better when you have to work a little harder to get them.

Anyways, aside from our personal reasons for loving this band and album, I think it's just good music.  Please take a listen to "The Clearing" from the shiny new music player (in the side bar -->)

I've also included the video for "Tuck the Darkness In".  It's just a good story, and it kind of reminds me of Where the Wild Things Are (which I love :)

This American Life

This morning on Fresh Air, I heard about a show that is coming to St. Charles next weekend featuring Ira Glass, about the workings of This American Life.  Well, we probably won't be going to the show, but it did lead me to the website where I watched this short video by Ira Glass.  The animations cute and the story is funny!  I really like this show  :)
